About Art Club
Art Club CDMX was a process-art studio based in Mexico City, dedicated to nurturing creativity through child-led exploration, play, and hands-on making.
From 2018 to 2024, Art Club grew from a small weekend class into a full-time studio offering after-school programs, holiday camps, toddler playgroups, birthday parties, and community events — all grounded in a belief that children are capable artists and creators.
We celebrated process over product, encouraged children to explore their own styles, and introduced them to a wide range of materials and techniques, from hammers and hand-sewing to stop-motion animation, screen printing, and sculpture.
Classes were taught primarily in English, with Spanish-language support, to create an inclusive space where families could feel at home.
A Brief History
Art Club began in 2018 as "Art in English," a Saturday morning class run by Joanna while working full-time as a teacher.
Our first dedicated studio opened just three months before the pandemic — a time that pushed us to adapt quickly. With a new baby at home, Joanna developing online classes, assembling and delivering art kits and sensory tables across the city, and focused on building community through live sessions and pop-up classes in gardens and local spaces. This period was challenging but deeply rewarding.
In 2022, Joanna opened the Roma Norte studio, and later moved to a bright ground-floor storefront in Escandón, officially recognised as an art school in Mexico City.
In early 2024, Joanna made the decision to close the studio and begin a new chapter, returning to England to be closer to family.
What’s Next
While the physical doors of Art Club have now closed, its heart and values live on. We’re proud to share that Tiny Lab is now open in Roma Sur — a new creative space built around many of the same principles that guided Art Club: community, curiosity, and process-based learning.
Joanna continues to collaborate with other educators and creatives, offering mentoring, resources, and creative projects that help bring meaningful art experiences to children and families — wherever they may be.
About Joanna
Joanna has lived in Mexico City for nine years. She studied Fine Art and is a trained primary school teacher. Her artistic and educational experience spans international projects, including artist residencies in Bosnia and Senegal, and work across the UK. She has led summer camp art programs in the USA and taught in London and Brighton before moving to Mexico City, where she worked in international schools and eventually founded Art Club. She is currently studying towards her MA in Education Leadership.
Soon, Joanna will be returning to the UK to work in an alternative school setting. She will continue supporting the creative community through Art Club projects, mentoring, planning sessions, and tailored support for art studio owners and educators.

“Thank you Miss Joanna, for years of art fun!”
